Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month at UCSF

The month of May marks Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) heritage month in the United Sates, and UCSF Office of Diversity and Outreach (ODO) is proud to join in on the celebration.  All are welcome to join.

May was selected to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month to commemorate the arrival of the first known Japanese immigrant, John Majiro to the US on May 7, 1843 and honor the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869 – that 20,000 Chinese workers labored to build and were an essential part of the railroad. Throughout US history, AANHPI have made lasting and impactful contributions across diverse areas of American life—from science and medicine to literature, the arts, sports, politics, activism, and law.

At UCSF, we are kicking off AANHPI Heritage Month with the theme of health and wellness. UCSF's very own Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance (APASA) is hosting an AANHPI Health & Wellness Week from April 28 to May 9. Everyone at UCSF is invited to join in for a two-week celebration of holistic health and well-being rooted in the diverse traditions AANHPI communities and other events during the month.

UCSF welcomes all participants to our events. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this event because of a disability, please contact the point person named in the events calendar as soon as possible.

Guest Speakers: UCSF endeavors to create greater understanding and supports the exchange of diverse ideas. Views and opinions of guest speakers on campus are their own and may not reflect the perspective of the University.
